About Badcuyp

Badcuyp is one of those places you casually walk past and then suddenly realize you need to step inside, especially if you enjoy restaurants that feel local, relaxed, and full of personality. Sitting right on Eerste Sweelinckstraat in Amsterdam, Badcuyp blends naturally into the neighborhood while still standing out as a reliable spot for good food and an easygoing atmosphere. From the moment I introduce it to someone, I usually describe it as welcoming rather than formal, which makes it a comfortable choice for both spontaneous visits and planned meetups. The vibe is unmistakably that of a proper restaurant, yet it never feels stiff or overdone, allowing conversations to flow just as smoothly as the drinks. One of the things that makes Badcuyp easy to recommend is how flexible it is. You can enjoy a relaxed dine-in experience, order delivery when staying in, or opt for takeaway on busier days without missing out on the quality. The offerings also play a big role in shaping the experience, with alcohol, beer, cocktails, wine, and spirits all fitting seamlessly into the menu, whether you’re stopping by for a casual drink or settling in for the evening. Coffee is there when you want to keep things light, while late-night food makes the restaurant feel dependable long after typical dinner hours. The balance between drinks and food feels natural, never forcing a specific mood on you, which is refreshing. Badcuyp tends to suit different moments equally well, from laid-back afternoons to lively nights, and that versatility is part of its charm. Every time I talk about it, I find myself focusing on how approachable it feels, as if the restaurant quietly adapts to whatever pace you bring with you.

Our 2nd time, since out 1st soon after they opened. Service and staff was very good and attentive . Food was good to exceptional. Started with a crab both amuse bouche - délicieux. We shared the artichoke - delicious, then mains we choose a special - Vol au vent with cèpes, then the pork sausage with Sides of Fries and Leeks with Cheddar. The Vol au vent was good , but missing a bit of taste from the cèpes, and the pastry too dry. The sausage was outstanding , a taste bomb. For dessert the Sticky toffee was delicious, and poached pear was ok but missing the wow. We mentioned about the plain vol au vent and they offered us a dessert. This was not asked for but welcome, Our comment was more to help them improve not that it was bad. Nice atmosphere, service and overall high quality

Great atmosphere and lovely interior in this restaurant. The staff and service were very attentive and took care of our party throughout the evening. Overall a 5/5 experience. We tried a variety of dishes with the steak & skate fish being the highlights. Beef tartare was good, house made Dutch crab broth was incredible, and the oysters were fresh and delightful. Only item we would not order again is the salmon crudo. Overall a fantastic experience with great cocktails, excellent atmosphere, attentive staff, and a lovely evening overall!

Had a small birthday dinner here. You do have to pay a €20/person fee for reservation, which will go towards the final bill. I requested a quiet corner, and they arranged just that. They were also attentive to allergy (more informing than substituting). The food was great: steak was cooked to a perfect medium; the sea bass was smokey and not fishy; the grilled chicken sauce was so good. The service was also nice, friendly and polite!
